Background: For over sixty years, this Company has been at the forefront of the railroad safety industry. With customers around the globe, the key to their ongoing success has been their commitment to research and development of measurement devices for the rail transportation industry. The core of their business is their Measure, Safety and Track Divisions with products that gauge and ensure the safety and stability of the existing track systems.
Application Introduction: This Company selected AAEON's RTC-1000A as the computing platform to power their Device. The Device measures track geometry to ensure the tracks are positioned equally. One of the features of the Company's Device is automatic zero-point adjusting, which simplifies the procedures as compared to the traditional methods. The Device consists of distance measuring, inspection and crossing tools that withstand various weather conditions and harsh environments. The slightest miscalculation could be detrimental to the track's performance, so the Company searched for a solid and reliable product to enhance their measurement equipment. Selecting AAEON from a wide field of potential suppliers was an important decision for them and was made with careful consideration and product evaluations.
AAEON's Solution: The Company was looking for a ruggedized tablet that is water and dust proof with a sunlight readable display to gauge railroad track safety. IP-65 certification and patented Advanced Optibond Technology were major factors in choosing AAEON's RTC-1000A. The RTC-1000A did not require major customization to fit into the customer's application, which eased the implementation and ultimately satisfied all project stakeholders.
Conclusion: The Company's Device performs bi-weekly measurement of their customers' track systems to check for possible maintenance issues on the rail. AAEON's RTC-1000A with integrated Intel® Atom™ processor and built-in wireless network features in a rugged and reliable design was a perfect match to fulfill the Company's requirements.
