Background: Our client has over seventeen years of experience in the Automation Industry as a system integrator in New Zealand. The company concentrates mainly in programmable controllers, HMI systems and SCADA software packages.
Application Introduction: Excavators are heavy construction equipment which have a cab, boom, and buckets that rests on a rotating platform. Excavators are mainly used for brush cutting for hydraulic attachments, digging trenches/foundations/holes, demolition and landscaping. The client was looking for excavating applications and explored their project needs with Aaeon's solutions. The application required car battery power (with a serial converter in between) thus connecting a particular machine with a pin 9 on a RS-232 port.
AAEON's Answer for the Application: Since the client only needed one RS-232 port, AAEON added a three pin power connector by switching off another COM port (RS-232/422/485) in order to provide +12 V power to the serial converter. The client decided to utilize AAEON's FOX-81, which is an 8.4" IP-67 Panel PC. At its heart is the Intel® Atom N270 Processor, equipped with a resistive touch screen. The FOX-81 has a customized three pin power cable, 4 GB SATA DOM of anti-vibration and a customized pre-installed XPE image with an onscreen keyboard.
Conclusion: With a complete IP-67 Panel PC that offered water-proof, anti-dust, anti-shock, and anti-vibration features, the client was able to easily run his own HMI software on our hardware for a complete excavating system.
